Viktor Nikolsky says the MV Faina started its journey to the Kenyan port of Mombasa Saturday. Nikolsky declined to give more details. He spoke to The Associated Press via a satellite phone.
On Friday, Nikolsky estimated it would take three to four days to reach Mombasa.
The MV Faina had been anchored near the central Somali coastal town of Hobyo since pirates captured it on Sept. 25. They released the ship on Thursday after receiving a US$3.2 million ransom.
MV Faina's seizure was one of the most brazen acts in a surge of attacks on ships off the Somali coast.
