A female refugee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told a local radio station that women were ordered to wear full-length body coverings even when they are in the privacy of their own homes, adding that any one seen violating the edict would be punished.
Early Sunday morning, pick-up trucks mounted with loudspeakers could be seen in the villages KM 13, Siinka Dheer, Elasha, Lafole and Arbska where thousands of displaced Somali civilians have taken refuge. Residents expressed a deep concern about the new rule that also forces women to stay home unless escorted by an adult male (Muhrem).
Al-Shabaab intends to impose a strict version of Sharia Islamic law throughout war-devastated Somalia. The group routinely carries out abductions and violently punishes people for all types of crimes.
In another development, at least one fighter has been killed and two others were severely wounded after a bomb blast targeted fighters of Ahlu Sunna Waljama’ (ASWJ) in Mogadishu on Sunday.
The explosion took place in a checkpoint in Mogadishu’s Dharkenley district where ASWJ fighters were searching buses and passengers, according to Sheikh Osman Sheikh Ahmed Abu Hamza, the spokesman of moderate Ahlu Sunna in south and central Somalia.
After the explosion, a lot of government forces and Ahlu Sunna fighters reached at scene to make search operations, but with in minutes another blast rocked the spot though it is still unknown the number of the casualties caused by the second explosion.
Witnesses said a lot of people whose number unconfirmed were seized during search operations conducted by Somali and Ahlu Sunna Waljama’ in Dharkenley district.
No group has claimed the responsibility of bomb attacks.
