THREE Somalis caught trying to sneak into the country in Busia at the Uganda-Kenya border on Wednesday are on a list of wanted terrorism suspects.
The Police had previously confirmed that two of the Somalis were on an international wanted list without giving further details. Other sources had suggested that the suspects, one of them a woman, had been linked to terrorism.
Sources identified the three as Abudala Karim, Abed Jamar Jamal Muhammed and a woman, Muhammed Abudinasia.
Sekate said the suspects were arrested as they tried to evade customs procedures at the border.
One suspect had two passports – one Swedish and the other Kenyan.
“They had the same name but different dates of birth,” he said.“When the two passports and the one for the woman were subjected to scrutiny it was discovered that they were on the wanted list,” Sekate said.
Sekate added that the third suspect lacked proper travel documents. The suspects have been transferred to Kampala as investigations continue. It also emerged that the woman had on December 7 entered into Uganda through Entebbe Airport and flown out to Nairobi on December 16, ostensibly to meet Abed Jamar.
Meanwhile, a grenade exploded in Burundi’s capital Bujumbura as revellers were ushering in the new year, killing three people and wounding several others, the army spokesman told AFP on Saturday.
“Shortly before midnight, a grenade exploded in the Buyenzi neighbourhood, killing one person and wounding five badly,” Gaspard Baratuza said.
Two other grenades exploded in the central region of Gitenga and the northeastern province of Kirundo, wounding five people, police said.“Preliminary findings indicate that they were on the wanted list,” deputy Police spokesperson Vincent Sekate said. He did not disclose their identities. New Vision

We Are Winning the War on Terrorism in Horn of Africa
The threat is from violent extremists who are a small minority of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims, the threat is real. They distort Islam. They kill man, woman and child; Christian and Hindu, Jew and Muslim. They seek to create a repressive caliphate. To defeat this enemy, we must understand who we are fighting against, and what we are fighting for.
