UN Envoy for Somalia Dr. Dr. Augustine Mahiga,
Mogadishu, Somalia - A high powered UN delegation led by the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe arrived in Mogadishu today and met with President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. Under-Secretary-General Pascoe was accompanied by Dr. Augustine Mahiga, Secretary General’s Special Representative for Somalia. President Sharif and the UN delegation held a wide-ranging discussion on the situation of Somalia particularly the need for the International community and the United Nations to expedite their support to the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.
Under-Secretary-General Pascoe informed the President that there will be series of high-level meetings on Somalia in the next four weeks with the objective of providing speedy support to the TFG. Mr. Pascoe has assured the Somali president that UN security-sector assistance will soon reach the Somali government.
President Sharif gave the UN delegation a comprehensive assessment on the security, political and the humanitarian situation of Somalia and he reiterated his call for serious international partnership with the Transitional Federal Institutions.
