Terrorist leader says he will join the government if it accepts Sharia

MOGADISHU --Terrorist Sheik Yusuf Mohamed Siad known as Indho AdeIslamist Terrorist Indha’ade said Sunday he will join and defend the Somali government led by President Sharif Sheik Ahmed if the government accepts the Islamic Law. Speaking to the reporters in Mogadishu after meeting with Traditional Hawiye Elders Yusuf said he and jehadist fighters will defend the government and be part of the Somali government soldiers if the government rules the country with Sharia . "I tell the leaders of the government to accept the Islamic Sharia and we will defend you,” said Indho Ade. Sheik Yusuf Indho Ade AdeBut he denied that he joined the government and that he got promises from the government. jehadist Sheik Yusuf Indho Ade is a member of Hizbul Islam aka habar-gidir .. hawiye al-shabaab wing which split into two groups last month. He called for the people in Mogadishu to benefit by from what he called a good chance after the withdrawal of the Ethiopian troops. His group supports mostly hawiye jehadist Islamic wahabi clerics who called for the Islamist insurgents to stop the fighting and give the government time to implement Implementing Sharia Somali Cabinet Members Votes to Base the Country's Legal System on Islam

Hawiye Warlordism becomes Hawiye Sheikhism aka hawiye terrorism

MOGADISHU --Since 1991 when warlords overthrew Honourable Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre Somalia has been under the control of powerful HAWIYE warlords with strong Terrorist militias. When they ousted Horourable president Mohamed Siad Barre they then turned on each other themselves. They killed thousands and displaced millions of civilians. But the hawiye warlords were ousted from the capital by the Islamic Courts Union with the help of the Somali society who were sick and tired of the warlords then. The hawiye Islamic Courts Union jehadist ruled much of south and central Somalia before they were routed by the Ethiopian troops who claimed they were propping up Somalia’s week government led by at that time TFG Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed in mid 2006. The Islamists said they were fighting to liberate the country from the Ethiopian troops but even after the withdrawal of the Ethiopian soldiers they are still fighting to shed the blood of more civilians. Now, there are no strong hawiye warlords in Somalia, particularly in the capital, Mogadishu. You see every man in the hawiye Islamists is calling himself the word “Sheikh” which is a religious title and the person can only get it if he studies the Islamic religion deeply, Most of the hawiye Islamist jehadist , Insurgent leaders have luxurious, expensive cars while the civilians are starving to death in parts of the country. A pregnant woman died for hunger in Lower Shabelle region recently. Some people argue that there are no differences between the former warlords and the current Sheikhs-those lead the insurgents -not the normal religious Sheikhs. A clan elder in the capital, who refused to be named, says that “the warlords used to kill people and Islamists are worse that the warlords because they kill every person that opposes their ideology and that is un-Islamic step. HAWIYE Warlordism has changed into hawiye Sheikhism ..aka Hawiye Terrorist these days and those who are calling themselves the word Sheikh are not actually Sheikhs because the Islamic religion does not allow to kill a Muslim person deliberately with out a reason. In the areas that HAWIYE Islamist jehadist militants control, wearing a red a turban and growing a long beard is a fashion because if you do not do that, you are seen as some one who is not practicing the Islamic religion.

History of State somali Collapse

History of State Collaps Events since the collapse of the Somali State in January 1991 have transformed Somali politics, economics, and society. This turbulent era in Somali history can be broken down into three short periods - the "complex emergency" of 1991-92; the period of effective UN intervention (December 1992-early 1994); and the post-intervention period (early 1994-).The fall of Honourable Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre administration in January 1991 did not bring about the expected coalition government. Instead, it heralded a two-year period of marauding banditry, disputed claims of authority, factional warfare, and famine that eventually prompted a massive international intervention. What began as an episode of looting by retreating forces and incoming liberation militias quickly degenerated into systematic pillaging of government buildings, public utilities, and property owned by anyone lacking the firepower to protect it. Disputed claims of leadership between Terrorist Mohamed Farah Aideed and Ali Mahdi Mohamed, two figures in the Hawiye Terrorist United Somali Congress (USC) faction that had occupied the capital, prevented the re-establishment of any authority within Mogadishu. Instead, anarchy characterised the politics of both Mogadishu and most of central and southern Somalia. Roving militias plundered towns and villages and answered to no authority. They fought in the name of a faction only when prospects for looting captured towns looked promising. War-booty was their only pay. Though few Somalis were spared from this destructive violence, weak social groups such as the coastal populations, Bantu farmers, and the Digil-Rahanweyn were by far the hardest-hit. This fact was made clear by their role as principal victims in the 1992 famine. Furthermore, the warfare and looting affected both economic infrastructure and the agricultural heartland of southern Somali..more..http://terrorfreesomalia.blogspot.com/2009/02/history-of-state-collapse.html

Somali pirates try to take over Israeli-owned ship

Somali pirates on Saturday tried to take over an Israeli-owned merchant ship while it was sailing some 700 kilometers off the shores of east Africa. The vessel was flying the Maltese flag, and none of the crew on board was Israeli. Early Saturday morning, the pirates started chasing the ship in two speed boats and opened machinegun fire on it. They were unable When news of the incident reached the headquarters of Zim Shipping Services in Haifa, they contacted NATO marine forces in the Gulf of Aden via the Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Navy. A British jet was dispatched to the scene and reported back that the pirate ships had turned back. Zim CEO Idan Ofer said that he wished "to thank the crew and the captain for their bravery and resourcefulness. And special thanks should go to the NATO headquarters that dispatched the aircraft, and the Foreign Ministry and the Navy, that helped us establish the contact with NATO." "The international community must put an end to this dangerous phenomenon of piracy off the shores of Somalia and restore maritime safety," he said.

Somali immigrants remake Minneapolis

In case you missed it, the New York Times has been running an in-depth series examining the impact on the country of massive levels of immigration, which is unprecedented both in numbers and fact that many of the newcomers are from the Third World, not from Europe as in the past.
"Remade in America," as the series is called, implies that America is remaking the immigrants. But if you read between the lines in the Times series, just the opposite seems to be the case.
The immigrants are remaking America!
Consider what has happened in Minnesota, a place the Times snidely calls a "once lily-white city on the prairie." Today, foreign-born people from places like Mexico, Somalia, and other Third World countries now constitute 5 percent of the population.
As in many other American cities, "Hispanics" -- mostly poor Mexicans here legally and illegally -- make up most of the new immigrants. But in Minneapolis, there are as many as 80,000 refugees from war-torn Somalia, as well. They were resettled in politically liberal Minneapolis because the State Department felt the city's splendid social services system could accommodate them, the Times noted. State Department officials also were impressed with the city's many civic groups that help newcomers...more..http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/04/somali_immigrants_remake_minne.html

Islamist Video: First We Conquer Somalia, Then On to Conquer Spain!

Think Islamist extremists don't have their eyes on conquering Europe? Think again.
This video produced by Ibnul Akwa links the recent successes of Shabaab in Somalia and of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in Western North Africa with the eventual reconquista of Spain.
There's nothing original here -- the video is stock footage from GIMF produced Shabaab and AQIM propaganda -- other than linking Islamist movements in Africa to the eventual conquering of Spain. I wouldn't even link it other than to serve as a not-so-gentle reminder of the mindset of those we are fighting. And I don't mean the terrorists in Somalia and Algeria, I mean right here in the U.S. and in Europe.
Ibnul Akwa, who made the video, supports al Qaeda and lives in the West.
UPDATE: For some reason I got East and West mixed up. In my mind, I could see Western North Africa, but somehow I labeled it Eastern North Africa. My bad. Man claims in video to be US jihadist in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A man who calls himself an American promotes holy war in Somalia in a video posted this week on an Islamic militant Web site.
A U.S. government contractor who tracks extremist propaganda says the footage is the first to show what may be an American with a senior role in al-Shabab, a Somali group the State Department considers a terrorist organization with links to al-Qaida.
The half-hour video features an amateur English-language rap soundtrack and purports to show an operation against Ethiopian troops in Somalia. It appeared on Web sites where al-Qaida and other militant groups often post messages and videos. A caption says it was filmed on July 15, 2008.

Somalia: Political Progress, Humanitarian Stalemate

Somalia remains the site of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with regional consequences that require greater international attention. The formation of a new government has so far meant little to the more than three million Somalis in need of emergency assistance inside the country. Aid agencies are struggling to respond to the needs of more than 500,000 refugees in neighboring countries. Donor governments need to be more generous in responding to refugee needs, especially in the Dadaab camps in Kenya, while also strengthening the African Union peacekeeping mission, AMISOM, to perform its limited mandate inside the country. http://www.refugeesinternational.org/policy/field-report/somalia-political-progress-humanitarian-stalemate

"American" calls for Somali action in extremist recruiting video

A new video by an extremist Islamist group in Somalia uses hip-hop music -- and what appears to be a white American fighter -- to urge Muslims around the world to fight in a holy war in the Horn of Africa.

Counterterrorism experts say it shows that extremists may still be trying to lure young Westerners to their cause.

St. Paul, Minn. — The 30-minute clip roughly fits the genre of propaganda videos created by Al-Qaeda and its affiliates. It comes with all the usual trappings, such as opening credits and Arabic chanting. But counterterrorism experts say the video represents an evolution in the medium. It feels a little bit like a music video, and it's almost entirely in English. The video's captions and logo give credit to Al-Shabaab, a Somali militia with ties to Al-Qaeda.The FBI is reviewing the video as it continues to investigate the disappearances of about a dozen Minnesotans of Somali descent. New Video May Help FBI Solve Somali-American Terror Case

video posted on a jihadist Web site could help the FBI determine how a group of Somali-Americans was recruited to join an Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group in Somalia.

For several months the FBI has been investigating at least 20 Somali-American men from the Minneapolis area and elsewhere in the United States who traveled to war-torn Somalia to join an Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group known as al-Shabaab, which has been warring with the moderate Somali government since 2006. At a Senate hearing on the issue last month, one top-ranking official said it's "clear" the Internet played a role in radizalizing and recruiting the young men.VIDEO: Click here to watch Catherine Herridge's report. The 30-minute video posted this week is a highly polished production, featuring anti-American hip-hop and sporadic images of Usama bin Laden. Spying for Islam...Mubin Shaikh real hero..Muslim Hero ..

Mubin Shaikh spent two years as an intelligence service mole inside an Islamist cell which was allegedly plotting to blow up Canada's Parliament buildings and behead the Prime Minister. Mubin lost his standing within the Muslim community for his role, and became a controversial figure when it was revealed that he was paid $300,000 for his services.
Mubin tells Dick that despite everything, he would do it again as a matter of both principle and faith.
Update: On March 24, 2009 Mubin Shaikh was cleared from charges of entrapment by a Judge in a Brampton Court. "There has not been any entrapment and there has not been any abuse of process," Judge Sproat told the court. "It's clear the application must be dismissed."

UK: Somali-Swede arrested on terrorism charges

this story is from last year, but the Swedish connection is only now being revealed.Earlier this year, Swedish authorities announced there were 9 Swedish citizens being held abroad for terrorism. Investigative journalist Per Gudmundson is busy tracking them down.
Gudmundson reveals on his blog (Swedish) that a Swedish citizen is being held in custody in London since May, 2008 for terrorism. The man is accused of collecting funds for terrorism in Somalia and for administering a website which incited or supported terrorism.Apparently, Sweden is busy exporting Somali terrorism. For more on this story see the Jawa Report and this forum.Ellinor Lundmark spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed the basic facts.
The Swede, Musse Said Yusuf, according to British sources, was arrested Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at a dawn operation in Higgs Close in Rowlatts Hill in Leicester. He was arrested with another Somali, Ahmed Said Mohammed, 32, at Devons Raod in East London. The men were brought to the Paddington Green high security police station i west London.According to the Swedish records, Yusuf does not have a permanent address in Sweden. He immigrated from Somalia to Sweden in 1991 and became a citizen in 1995. In recent years he's been living in the Stockholm suburbs of Tensta and Kista. There's no information about residence since last winter. He's divorced and has four children from two women. His trial is expected to continue April 21.Gudmondson says there is sometimes widespread support among the Swedish-Somali diaspora in the Stockholm area for the armed rebels in Somalia. A Swedish citizen heads the Shabaab terror group, and two Swedes hold senior positions in Hizbul-Islam.AKA HAWIYE CLAN AL- SHABAAB Though the Swede has been in custody in the UK for almost a year, he got no attention from the Swedish media, apparently due to a request by the ministry. The Swede declined assistance from the Swedish authorities, and according to Lundmark, does not want to have contact with the Ministry

Radical Muslims wage jihad on the internet

During the Islamic terror attack in Mumbai, India last year, tech-savvy terrorists used BlackBerries and Google Earth satellite-imaging to plan and carry out their atrocities.Once again, the West’s enemies were employing 21st century technology to spread its dangerous 8th century ideology. Since September 11, 2001, experts have been increasingly concerned about the rapid growth of the “internet jihad.”The SITE Intelligence Group monitors YouTube, which has become a favorite platform for the disseminate Islamist propaganda and terrorist how-to videos. For example, a password-protected forum run by Fursan Ghazawat Alnusra (“Knights in Support of the Invasion”) offered step-by-step instructions to radical Muslim sympathizers on how to post videos to YouTube. The same radical group has called for an “invasion of Facebook”, the hugely popular social networking site.Facebook and YouTube have strict terms of use allowing them to remove videos and sites that advocate violence, racism and the like. However, given that Facebook’s membership is over 175 million and rising, constant monitoring is simply impossible. Banned users can set up replacement websites under false names. By stripping out trigger words like “terrorism” that will get their sites banned, they can outrun the YouTube and Facebook monitors a little longer. The web’s international reach means that online jihad has no boundaries, making it even harder to police. A recent study by the UK’s Centre for Social Cohesion (CSC), called “Virtual Caliphate,” revealed that British Muslim radicals are using Internet tools for recruitment, training and propaganda...more..http://www.examiner.com/x-722-Conservative-Politics-Examiner~y2009m4d2-Radical-Muslims-wage-jihad-on-the-internet

Shoot, But Don't Touch

So far this year, over 20,000 Somalis have fled to Kenya, where they live in camps near the border. Hundreds cross the border each week, trying to get away from the fighting in southern Somalia. Islamic radical groups like al Shabaab claim to control most of the south, but that control is still disputed by other, less radical groups, or resisted by clans that prefer to run their own affairs. The fighting and general anarchy is driving many Somalis to flee the country.

The pirates have not been able to seize ships in the Gulf of Aden since the anti-piracy patrol began operation in January. So now at least one pirate mother ship has shifted to the east coast, going after the ship traffic headed south for South Africa and around the cape to the Atlantic. Many of these ships come out of the Persian Gulf, and travel 400-800 kilometers off the Somali coast. Speed boats can't make it out that far, and have to be towed out by a larger "mother ship." Now it's up to the anti-piracy patrol to hunt down and capture or destroy the mother ship. That's only a temporary fix, as any large fishing boat (built to operate on the high seas) can operate as a mother ship. Since most nations participating in the anti-piracy patrol are not authorized to prosecute captured pirates (they are disarmed and released), it's going to be difficult to halt, or even control, the pirate problem. In the last two weeks, there have been nearly 20 ships attacked far off the east coast, and four ships (including a yacht) have been taken. Currently the pirates are holding nine ships for ransom, along with 137 crew.

Fighting continues in Mogadishu, and throughout southern Somalia, as al Shabaab and government gunmen battle each other for control. Al Shabaab has officially asked foreign aid groups to return and help feed over three million people who are starving in the south because of a long drought. Most aid groups have withdrawn because of increasing attacks (robbery, murder, kidnapping) on aid group personnel. The aid groups are negotiating with al Shabaab over a possible return. In the past, Islamic conservative groups have proved unreliable negotiating partners.

Now that Ethiopian troops have departed, Islamic terrorists have felt more confident about relocating to Somalia. While last year there were about a hundred foreign Islamic terrorists in the country, now there are nearly 500. Osama bin Laden has issued audio messages calling for Islamic radicals to come to Somalia and install an Islamic religious dictatorship, so the country can be used as a base for Islamic terrorists. This has angered many Somali Islamic conservatives, who now control the government (such as it is). One thing Somalis can agree on is opposition to foreign domination.

In some parts of the south, al Shabaab are trying to ban all sorts of "sinful" activities (cigarettes, music, videos, and chewing Khat, a popular narcotic leaf). This does not make al Shabaab any more popular. ..more.http://www.strategypage.com/qnd/somalia/articles/20090402.aspx

Botswana deports two Somalis on suspicion over Al-Qaeda terror links

GABORONE, Wednesday

Two Somalis have been deported from Botswana on suspicion that they are members of Al-Qaeda terrorist group. “We can confirm the deportation of two foreign nationals through a Presidential Decree,” Ms Lebogang Bok, spokesperson for Botswana Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs told the private weekly, Botswana Gazette. The paper reported on Wednesday that the men were using non-Somali passports that were found to be suspect.“They could not account for the passports they were using; when these were scanned, their security features were found to be suspect,” the Gazette quoted an unnamed source. The Somalis were suspected of money-laundering through their car dealership. Ms Bok could not say whether they were connected to Al-Qaeda because they have not been given the reasons for the deportation. “We are not aware of that information (Al-Qaeda link) because we are never given reasons for deportations through Presidential Decree,” she said. Before their deportation, the two men had slapped the Botswana government with a P2.5 million (1 USD = P7.94) lawsuit for unlawful arrest and detention after they were apprehended last December. The men said they were harassed by Botswana security agents and immigration officers. Their lawyer, Mr Morgan Moseki has said he will press head with the suit as the two deportees had given him a power of attorney. Meanwhile, it recently took 12 hours to convince 92 Somalis who wanted to illegally enter Botswana from South Africa to refrain from the action. ..more..http://www.nation.co.ke/News/africa/-/1066/555564/-/13q0460z/-/index.html

Former Baidoa Administration Vows to Seize Control from Hard-Line Islamic Insurgents

Tensions in the Southern region of Somalia are escalating after former Baidoa administration officials continue attacks on hard-line Islamic insurgents al-Shabab in a bid to retake control of the city. The former Baidoa security force claims it has been significantly strengthened after another opposition, al-Sunnah Waljamaca, joined its ranks to wrest power from al-Shabab. Al-Shabab, which Washington describes as a terrorist organization with close links to al-Qaeda, seized Baidoa and the parliament building after the Islamic extremists attacked forces of the former Transitional Federal Government (TFG) earlier this year.
Former Somali education minister Mohammed Ali Ahmed tells reporter Peter Clottey that Baidoa residents are sharply divided on which of the two groups would be better controlling the city.
"There was a clash between the militia who were in control formerly of Baidoa and al-Shabab. The former militiamen made some roadblocks at a palace which is about 30 kilometers north of Baidoa. And when the guys from al-Shabab heard this information, they went there and at night around 2 a.m., there was a clash which ended with death and injuries on both sides. On the side of al-Shabaab two of their fighters were killed and at least 19 injured. On the other side, there were at least three dead and six wounded," Ali Ahmed said...more..http://www.voanews.com/english/Africa/2009-04-01-voa2.cfm

Somali terror group raps in English for recruits

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A propaganda video by Islamic extremists in Somalia features appeals to foreign recruits from an "American" fighter along with English rapping and songs, a US monitoring group said Tuesday. The 31-minute video made public by the SITE Intelligence Group, which shows a purported ambush of Somali and Ethiopian troops in July 2008, has an on-camera narrator who is identified as "Abu Mansour the American."Representing the militant Islamic group Shebab, Abu Mansour makes a pitch for new overseas recruits after praising one militant fighter killed in the apparent ambush."So, if you can encourage more of your children and more of your neighbors and anyone around to send people like him to this jihad (holy war), it would be a great asset for us," he says. The light-skinned and bearded Abu Mansour speaks in a soft US accent, possibly from the northern United States, and wears a camouflage hat and combat fatigues. He looks to be in his late 20s or 30s.Another fighter, darker skinned and with his face masked by a cloth, says in English: "So, inshallah (Allah willing), we are calling all the brothers overseas, all the shebab (youth), wherever they are, to come and live the life of a mujahed (holy warrior)."The video was released after the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned this month that "radicalized clusters" of Somali-American youths as young as 12 were being recruited by Islamic terror groups...more..http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090331/wl_africa_afp/usattackssomaliaunrest_20090331220133

Somalia’s Mujajideen Youth Movement, an apparent offshoot of the as-Shabab group, has released a video (obtained by IntelCenter) featuring a figure who appears to be an American member. The guy in the video speaks American English and goes by the nom de guerre Abu Mansoor al-Amriki. The video is entitled “Ambush at Bardal,” but it’s unclear what the context of the video is so far.
The video itself is 31 minutes and 37 seconds long and is the second one featuring an American English speaker from the group — considered by Jamestown Foundation as one of the more potent militant groups in Somalia. Its origins date back to at least April 2007, when a number of foreign fighters began infiltrating into Somalia using tactics similar to the insurgency of Iraq. (And speaking of Iraq, be sure and check out this story from TIME Magazine on al Qaeda in Iraq’s renewed efforts at a comeback by infiltrating the Sahwah Movement.)
Somalia seems to be an increasing focus of al Qaeda as it struggles to win back the propaganda initiative in the face of a unity government in Mogadishu. Asarq al-Awsat reports that Osama bin Laden’s latest messages to Muslims and mujahideen in Somalia are aimed at boosting morale there in preparation of a greater influx of al Qaeda fighters, who want to take advantage of Somalia’s tribal structure. As the paper reports:
According to experts, while Bin Laden’s local allies in Somalia pose a real military threat, most of the Somali people seem to be more convinced of the former teacher, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmad, 42, and of his ability to achieve stability in the country, than they are of the war message preached by Al-Qaeda organization. Rashid Abdi, expert in Somali affairs in the International Group for Addressing Crises, said: “There is no possibility of a rebellion erupting in Somalia. The (Bin Laden’s appeal) primarily aims at raising the morale among the MYM.” He added: “Bin Laden’s appeal shows that Al-Qaeda has designs in Somalia, but, politically speaking, most of the country sides with Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmad.” He said that the MYM is a strong group of Islamic fighters who are sympathetic to Al-Qaeda. They are in control of large parts of the country and they, along with movements that embrace the same ideology, are staging a rebellion against the government. He added that against this military threat, there is a deep feeling among ordinary Somalis that Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmad, a moderate Islamic leader who won the elections during talks hosted by the UN in Djibouti in January, provides the best opportunity in years to build a new future in the country.
In June 2007, the group claimed responsibility for an assassination attempt on then Somali prime minister Ali Mohamed Gedi. Seven people died in the attack.

Update on Kidnapped Lindhout BY HAWIYE HABAR-GIDIR Terrorist tugs IN MOGADISHU SOMALIA

In August, Somali gunmen grabbed two journalists — Canadian Amanda Lindhout (pictured) and Aussie Nigel Brennan — while the two were traveling to report on refugees outside Mogadishu. Aside from a brief video that surfaced last year, the two have not been seen or heard from, by reliable witnesses.
Information has been sketchy. My sources in Mogadishu reported different locations for the captives, perhaps because the kidnappers kept moving them, or perhaps because no one really knew for sure. In February, one Somalia group claimed that Lindhout and Brennan had briefly escaped, only to be recaptured. That claim has been challenged. Two weeks ago, a group insisted that the reporters’ release was imminent — but nothing happened.
I don’t know what to believe. And so it is with great reluctance that I pass along the latest information from my Somali sources. I have sat on this for a couple weeks, hoping for outside verification, but that has proved impossible. This information comes from a source I’ve grown to trust. Still, I advise my readers to be very, very skeptical.
Lindhout is pregnant.
At least that’s what I’m told...MORE..http://warisboring.com/?p=1868

Honorable Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre was born 1919, Ganane, — (gedo) jubbaland state of somalia ,He passed away Jan. 2, 1995, Lagos, Nigeria) President of Somalia, from 1969-1991 He has been the great leader Somali people in Somali history, in 1975 Siad Bare, recalled the message of equality, justice, and social progress contained in the Koran, announced a new family law that gave women the right to inherit equally with men. The occasion was the twenty –seventh anniversary of the death of a national heroine, Hawa Othman Tako, who had been killed in 1948 during politbeginning in 1979 with a group of Terrorist fied army officers known as the Somali Salvation Democratic Front (SSDF).Mr Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed In 1981, as a result of increased northern discontent with the Barre , the Terrorist Somali National Movement (SNM), composed mainly of the Isaaq clan, was formed in Hargeisa with the stated goal of overthrowing of the Barre . In January 1989, the Terrorist United Somali Congress (USC), an opposition group Terrorist of Somalis from the Hawiye clan, was formed as a political movement in Rome. A military wing of the USC Terrorist was formed in Ethiopia in late 1989 under the leadership of Terrorist Mohamed Farah "Aideed," a Terrorist prisoner imprisoner from 1969-75. Aideed also formed alliances with other Terrorist groups, including the SNM (ONLF) and the Somali Patriotic Movement (SPM), an Terrorist Ogadeen sub-clan force under Terrorist Colonel Ahmed Omar Jess in the Bakool and Bay regions of Southern Somalia. , 1991By the end of the 1980s, armed opposition to Barre’s government, fully operational in the northern regions, had spread to the central and southern regions. Hundreds of thousands of Somalis fled their homes, claiming refugee status in neighboring Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya. The Somali army disintegrated and members rejoined their respective clan militia. Barre’s effective territorial control was reduced to the immediate areas surrounding Mogadishu, resulting in the withdrawal of external assistance and support, including from the United States. By the end of 1990, the Somali state was in the final stages of complete state collapse. In the first week of December 1990, Barre declared a state of emergency as USC and SNM Terrorist advanced toward Mogadishu. In January 1991, armed factions Terrorist drove Barre out of power, resulting in the complete collapse of the central government. Barre later died in exile in Nigeria. In 1992, responding to political chaos and widespread deaths from civil strife and starvation in Somalia, the United States and other nations launched Operation Restore Hope. Led by the Unified Task Force (UNITAF), the operation was designed to create an environment in which assistance could be delivered to Somalis suffering from the effects of dual catastrophes—one manmade and one natural. UNITAF was followed by the United Nations Operation in Somalia (UNOSOM). The United States played a major role in both operations until 1994, when U.S. forces withdrew. Warlordism, terrorism. PIRATES ,(TRIBILISM) Replaces the Honourable Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre administration .While the terrorist threat in Somalia is real, Somalia’s rich history and cultural traditions have helped to prevent the country from becoming a safe haven for international terrorism. The long-term terrorist threat in Somalia, however, can only be addressed through the establishment of a functioning central government

We Are Winning the War on Terrorism in Horn of Africa

The threat is from violent extremists who are a small minority of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims, the threat is real. They distort Islam. They kill man, woman and child; Christian and Hindu, Jew and Muslim. They seek to create a repressive caliphate. To defeat this enemy, we must understand who we are fighting against, and what we are fighting for.
