At least ten men suspected to be members of Somalia's militia group, al Shabaab, have been arrested in Nairobi.Anti-terrorism police officers rounded up the suspects during an impromptu operation in Eastleigh Estate and its neighbourhood."They are being interrogated before we know the way forward. Some of them are Kenyans," said our source.The suspects are said to have escaped the ongoing onslaught by Somalia Transitional Federal Government forces against al Shabaab at the Kenya-Somalia border.
Suspects detained"You remember they issued a threat the other day. We are not taking any chances," said Police Spokesman Eric Kiraithe.They are being detained in separate police stations.
Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere called on Kenyans to be vigilant in social places and in public service vehicles in the wake of the threats issued on grounds that Kenya was training Somalia government forces and also allowing the Ethiopian troops, who have teamed up with TFG soldiers, to operate from its border towns.
"I would wish to take this opportunity to assure the public that in conjunction with other security services, we have taken measures to provide adequate security.
‘Supporting an enemy’
"However, we wish to advice those responsible for security in shopping malls, hotels, PSV stations and all other social places to be more vigilant at this time," he said.
The group aligned to Al Qaeda reiterated it would attack Kenya for supporting an enemy.
"Kenya has constantly disturbed us and now it should face the consequences of allowing Ethiopian troops to attack us from Mandera Town," Al Shaabab Spokesman, Sheik Ali Mohmud Rage, told a news confer
In the Press conference spmali pm mohamad abdulahi (farmaajo) was asked whether Ethiopian soldiers we part of the attack in Bula-Hawo district.
“No! absolutely there were no Ethiopian troops who were part of the fight in which the Somali government troops have retaken control of Bula-Hawo district, but they merely provided logistic assistance to the government soldiers” added President Shariff.
At the end of the Press conference the PM has urged the Somali people to seriously support the government soldiers and their ally the AU troops who he said are here in Mogadishu only to help the Somali people.
