President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with the visiting United States of America Deputy Secretary of State James B. Steinberg at State House Entebbe. During the meeting that took place today at State House, Entebbe, the President and his guest delved into issues pertaining to the on-going peace process in Somalia and Uganda's key role in restoring peace in the war-torn Horn of Africa country.
President Museveni expressed his happiness with the support the US government is giving to the Transitional Government of Somalia and affirmed that the Government of Uganda is committed to restoring normality in that country. Deputy Secretary of State Steinberg commended President Museveni and the Government of Uganda for the effort in ending the reign of terror in Somalia. He pledged the US commitment to supporting the Transitional Government in Mogadishu in a quest to restore peace in Somalia. He particularly expressed happiness that the African Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) contingent is in control of over 70% of Mogadishu City today.
Mr. Steinberg was accompanied by the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Ambassador Johnnie Carson, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador James Mugume, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Pius Bigirimana, Uganda’s Envoy to Washington DC, Ambassador James Kamunanwire.-- End
